Poodle Grooming

Poodles are intelligent, active dogs with a dense, curly coat that grows continuously. Although they are low-shedding, their coat can trap loose hair and mat easily without regular brushing and grooming. Their coat needs regular care using gentle moisturising shampoos and light conditioning sprays; avoid heavy oils that flatten curls.

Coat type: Dense, curly, continuously growing
Grooming level: High
Recommended grooming frequency: Every 4–6 weeks
Common concerns: Matting, knots, dryness, dullness and tear staining

DIY Grooming Your Own Poodle

For owners grooming their own Poodle at home, the focus should be on regular brushing, gentle bathing and preventing knots. Choosing the right shampoo for your Poodle’s coat colour can help keep the coat looking fresh and vibrant: Artero Blanc Shampoo is ideal for white and light-coloured Poodles, Artero Scarlet Shampoo is suited to red and apricot coats, and Artero Hidratante Shampoo is a great option for black or darker coats. We reccomend a 2 step shampoo routine starting with Artero Basic Shampoo and then going in with one of the previously mentioned.

After shampooing, Artero Protein Vital Conditioner or Artero Keratin Vital Conditioner can help keep the coat soft, manageable and easier to brush. Artero Matt-X can also be used before brushing to help work through small tangles.

A quality Artero slicker brush and comb are essential Tools for brushing through the curls and checking the coat properly down to the skin. Confident home groomers may also use Artero Clippers, suitable Blades and Scissors.

Pet Owner Maintenance In-Between Grooms

Between professional grooms, Poodles benefit from light brushing several times a week, especially behind the ears, under the legs, around the collar, feet and tail. Artero Mix or Artero Matt-X helps make brushing easier, while an Artero slicker brush and comb help prevent small tangles from turning into mats.

Pet owners may also use Artero eye, ear and nail care products to keep their Poodle clean and comfortable.
